Secrets of Cortese is inspired by Italian Alchemy and is named after one of the first documented female alchemists, Isabella Cortese. In 1561, her book I secreti della signora Isabella Cortese first appeared in print in Venice, introducing alchemy to a wider readership. Her books contained a plethora of highly effective home remedies, cosmetic recipes and of course, alchemical procedures. In her book, Cortese described herself as a noblewoman who spent decades traveling and studying alchemy, gathering the recipes (‘secrets’) published in the collection.
Secrets of Cortese is also inspired by the Amalfi Coast in Italy, a mediterranean peninsula with an abundance of wild Rosemary and terraced Lemon orchards.
The base of Secrets of Cortese is a blend of Rosemary & Lemon Verbena distilled fresh using local Spring water in a handmade Copper still. Aromatic distillation is a beautiful, alchemical process that results in a whole plant, phytonutrient-rich, full-spectrum blend of oil, fat & water soluble medicinal constituents (ie. Hydrosol & Essential oils).
Secrets of Cortese includes special extracts of Red Rose, Damask Rose & Hibiscus. As well as a Willow Bark extract for gentle exfoliation.
Secrets of Cortese starts with clean, green & citrusy notes from Lemon Verbena & Rosemary and finishes with well-balanced fresh Rose petals.
